Luiz is originally from Curitiba, Brazil and is currently serving as the High School Assistant Principal for Student Wellbeing at the International School of Panama. He has taught in Brazil, Serbia, Egypt, China, and Cambodia prior to moving to Central America. He has a background in Biological Sciences and Science Education and has taught in the IB MYP and DP for 15 years. He also participates in the IB Educator Network, leading workshops and school visits on behalf of the IB since 2014.

He holds a Master's in Education from Framingham State University and a Master's in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University-Irvine. He also earned the Certificate of Educational Technology and Information Literacy (COETAIL) in 2021. More recently, Luiz completed the PTC's Certificate in International School Leadership in 2023 and the Certificate of Advanced Educational Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2024. Effective communication and team productivity are his latest professional interests.

Luiz is motivated by the wonderful, effective educators and school leaders he has met and continues to meet during his career, and the positive impact they have on students. He loves road trips, cycling, diving, and golf (even if golf does not like him).
